Despectacularizing Things: Come and see...

"We do not seek what is, but rather what should be."
-wrecked for the ordinary

What are we made up of?
We are made up of moms and dads, children, children, children, artists, drug-addicts, recovering addicts, architects, occassional visiting doctors, doubters, very new-new monastics, hippies, conservatives, musicians galore, poets, professional cussers and skeptics who enjoy pounding coffee, the company of friends and pondering the goodness of God.

We are joining God
in bringing life to the dead places.
The broken places.
The forgotten places.
We are looking for those that are hungry. For those who are thirsty.
We are loving our neighbor
and trying to be faithful.
We are constantly seeking
to balance Biblical faith
with social involvement.
We've labored to love our neighbors
and know our city.
The Vineyard is a community
of rag-tag, ordinary radical -
hope peddlers.

That's us
and it's His deal not ours.
Come and see...
Us:

VINEYARD STAFF & LEADERS:
hope-peddlers
conveyors of grace
footwashers

We're like this-
"A pessimist, they say, sees a glass of water as being half empty; an optimist sees the same glass as being half full. But a giving person sees a glass of water and starts looking for someone who might be thirsty."
-G. Donald Gale

Vineyard pastors:
Scott Budzar and James Zelasko;
We're just ordinary folks
who are being wrecked for the ordinary.
A couple of knuckleheads that
GET to do some things because of the grace of God.
We are far from being perfect
but we do see strength in humility, brokenness and serving. Come and see...

Our Vision
The Vineyard Community Church in Kent became the first church plant here to be completely wired towards the postmodern world. That doesn't mean that we've discovered something new because the church model is thousands of years old. But we certainly recognize the shifting culture around us. That doesn't eliminate the need for traditional churches by any means. It's all His.

What makes the Vineyard good for Kent is that the majority of us live in Kent. Kent is our home 7 days a week. It is not a spot for us to do church but for us to be the Church. So we are purposefully and conscientiously aware of the welfare of the city of Kent(more of a town actually).

We know and love the fact that Kent is an intellectually respected city as well as a thriving community of artistic stimulators. We support that, invest in that and love it.

We see ourselves becoming overrun by God's grace. But we can't see how far that is with our own eyes. We need to see the world the way God does which means it's gonna hurt. We believe in GROWING SMALL. That means caring greatly for the little things.

The Association of Vineyard Churches and Statement of Faith
There are over 60 Vineyards in Ohio as well as three Vineyard church plants going on in Cuyahoga Falls, Canton and Brecksville. There are some 600 in the United States:
You can find Vineyards throughout the U.S. by going to www.vineyardusa.org.

Our "Theology" comes from the great faith of hookers and thieves:
“The hookers and swindlers enter [Heaven] before us because they know they cannot save themselves, they cannot make themselves presentable or lovable. They risked everything on Jesus, and knowing they didn’t have it all together, were not too proud to accept the handout of amazing grace.”
-brennan manning

We are affiliated with the Assocation of Vineyard Churches; a group of over 600 churches who share similar values and beliefs and seek to support each other relationally and to hold each other accountable. We have local area, regional, and national overseers that we stay in regular contact for reasons of integrity and servitude. The Vineyard has been noted as the fastest church planting movement in the world.

The need for a statement of faith arose shortly after the beginning of the Vineyard movement in 1983. We were growing quite rapidly and people were coming into the movement from a variety of theological backgrounds and church traditions. To remain true to the faith once and for ever given to the saints, we knew it was necessary to develop a statement of faith that was faithful to Scriptures and represented the diversity of those who are committed to live under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in relationship with one another in the Vineyard.
